If you are a runner, you would understand the hard work it needs to join a marathon. You train for months ahead of the race. However, one dog just decided to do it on a whim.

Ludivine is a two-and-a-half-year-old Bloodhound from Elkmont, Alabama. Recently, this friendly pooch made the headlines as she finished 7th on the Elkmont Trackless Train Half Marathon. You read that right. Ludivine ran 13.1 miles, beating hundreds of runners with an impressive record of 1:32.56. So, how did that happen?

April Hamlin, Ludivine’s owner, said that the dog was let out for her bathroom break. However, she found herself at the half marathon’s starting line, so what else should she do? She decided to join the race!

Her owner said that all she did was open the door for her usual pee break. Then, Ludivine joined the marathon on her own. At first, she was embarrassed. She was worried that her dog might get in the way of the other runners. Hamlin further said that Ludivine is friendly and laid back. She’s a lazy dog so she couldn’t believe that her dog was able to finish the half marathon.

The half marathon fourth finisher, Jim Clemens, said that whenever he thinks that the dog has already dropped off to go back home, he would hear her coming back close to him. She even raced past him despite wandering through the yards and streams to sniff around.

For a lazy dog like Ludivine, that running prowess is indeed impressive. No doubt she deserves the medal around her neck. Because of her cuteness and stamina, she won many people’s heart around the world. Inevitably, she also gave the marathon the publicity that it needed, which would surely help the fundraising event. Now, that’s accidentally hitting two birds in one stone!
